Have your say

Find out more about the open consultation running until December 31.

The Royal College of Pharmacy has expressed its support for the Association of Pharmacy Technician UK (APTUK) plan to develop a UK-wide post-registration pharmacy technician career development pathway.

An open consultation about the proposals is running until December 31 and APTUK is urging as many people as possible to complete the questionnaire. Royal College of Pharmacy director of education Louise Goldring says: “We welcome the opportunity for the whole pharmacy community to comprehensively engage in the detail of APTUK’s proposals and will actively consult with our members to ensure that their voices and opinions are heard.

“We have had initial, collaborative discussions with APTUK and look forward to building on this now that we have time to review the draft proposals in detail during the forthcoming consultation phase.”

APTUK’s proposed pathway aims to provide a clear, nationally recognised approach to pharmacy technician career development from Foundation Practice (Level 4) to Enhanced Practice (Level 6), aligned to the Skills for Health career framework.

Consultation responses will be analysed and used to refine the pathway, identify areas requiring further development and help steer implementation resources and guidance. They will also inform possible future work relating to advanced and consultant pharmacy technician practice, says APTUK.
